Bloggin'

Thing 8-I was already familiar with RSS feeds, but I did finally set up a bloglines account. I had been meaning to do this for quite some time now. I do follow numerous blogs and up until now, I had been going to each individual site.

Thing 9-Here are three library blogs that I love: The Annoyed Librarian at http://www.libraryjournal.com/blog/580000658.html, Tame the Web at http://tametheweb.com/, and The Shifted Librarian at http://theshiftedlibrarian.com/.

Steps 5-7

Thing 5- I absolutely love Flickr. I don't have a personal account, but many of my friends and family do and they're constantly posting pictures. Here is a link to one of my favorites from some friends who visited Washington D.C. this summer: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mitchviren/3652281499/in/set-72157620195812583/. I was able to visit D.C. in August and got to see the Library of Congress!!

Thing 6- I also really like the mashup site Montager which allows you to create photo mosaics. What a cool idea.

Thing 7- This is an interesting tech article that I found recently about Google Wave which will be released in 2010. They call it a web application which aims to replace email. http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/09/29/google.wave.beta/index.html

Tweet Tweet

Thing 4- So for step number 4, I set up a Twitter account and my username is nlindsay80. I added a photo and started following several organizations-PBS, NPR, Smithsonian, National Geographic and some others that are of interest to me. I don't have a SmartPhone so I will not be able to post tweets from my cell phone. All of mine will have to be done from a computer. Personally, I've never been that interested in Twitter, however, I do see how it can be useful for libraries to spread the word about various subjects, events, etc.

Steps 1-3

This post is the official start of my 23 Things blog as part of my LIS 635 Reference and Information Services class through the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I have blogged before, but am looking forward to completing the "23 things" which I have heard so much about.

Thing 1-Learn about the 23 Things program. I know about some of these tools already, but I'm sure I'll learn much more this semester.

Thing 2-Discover pointers from lifelong learners. I think the easiest part for me will be to accept responsibility for my own learning. I think being a distance education student really makes this necessary. The most difficult part for me will be to view problems as challenges. I will need to work on this.

Thing 3-Setup your blog and post. More to come, so stay tuned.
